1. High-Rise Audiobook Review

High Rise

Pulisher’s Summary

British actor Tom Hiddleston, well-known for portraying the supervillain Loki (The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World) and the writer F. Scott Fitzgerald (Midnight in Paris), brings his acting versatility and smooth voice to this visionary tale by acclaimed author J.G. Ballard (Empire of the Sun). When a class war erupts inside a luxurious apartment block, modern elevators become violent battlegrounds, and cocktail parties degenerate into marauding attacks on “enemy” floors. Human society slips into violent reverse as once-peaceful residents, driven by primal urges, re-create a world ruled by the laws of the jungle.

My Feedback on High Rise of Audiobook

This book is a disturbing allegory – class struggle, self-deception. And the animalistic brutality concealed just below the surface of human civilization. High-Rise is one of those few short novels that could be the topic of a very concise thesis. That ultimately clocks a longer page count than its source material. There is a simple story of ascent-descent at play. But quite a bit of expressive analogy hiding between the lines. There are three main characters, each representing a differing class; lower, middle, and upper. Here we get that we are merely living in a pretense civilized world.

This pretense can be blown to pieces in an amazingly short time given the right conditions. If we feel that it is no longer necessary to obey civil manners, it is immediately clear that primal urges are only skin deep. I cannot recall having ever read a novel similar to this one before. In fact, you cannot call it a dystopian book. Because life outside the building goes on as usual. This book really caught me unawares. Which is very impressive. That’s the reason you should try it and experience the deep meaning of this amazing book. To know more about it click on amazon.

2. Dracula Audiobook of Tom Hiddleston

Dracula

Publisher’s Summary

Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager) stars as Jonathan Harker, with David Suchet (Poirot) as Dracula in Liz Lochhead’s powerful BBC radio adaptation of the classic novel by Bram Stoker.

When solicitor Jonathan Harker sets off for Transylvania to sell the mysterious Count Dracula a Gothic mansion, his bride-to-be, Mina, begs him to stay – to no avail. But on arrival at Dracula’s castle, deep in a black forest surrounded by wolves, Harker wishes he had listened to his fiancée. The Count is welcoming but unnerving and his castle oppressive. Plagued by nightmares, Harker soon longs to leave.

Back in Whitby, Mina is increasingly worried. She has heard nothing from Jonathan, and now her sister, Lucy – newly engaged to Harker’s friend, Dr Seward – is becoming pale and thin. In Seward’s lunatic asylum in London, a madman named Renfield babbles about his master, who is coming. And as a midnight storm rages, a black ship heads towards the English coast….

Acclaimed poet and playwright Liz Lochhead’s adaptation was first performed onstage in 1985, and this thrilling radio drama was broadcast on the World Service in 2006. Suspenseful, chilling and suffused with dark eroticism, it retains all the eerie dread of Stoker’s infamous horror novel.

My Feedback on Dracula Audiobook

Whenever we hear Dracula’s name this instantly brings to mind visions of vampires, stakes, garlic, and crucifixes. But still, we love to read such novels. Because it becomes self-evident how twisted modern vampire fiction now is. Dracula is, of course, one of the most renowned horror stories, and the most well-known vampire novel. Bram Stoker sets the ground rules for what a vampire should be. And set the benchmark for all other writers of the vampire afterward. Indeed, if tyrannical villains are a necessity of Gothic fiction then Count Dracula is the father of all gothic villains.

It’s a work of genius that his presence is felt so strongly in the novel with him appearing in the flesh so rarely. On initial inspection the plot of the book can be summed up in a few short sentences: Dracula wishes to create more vampires in Victorian London; his attempts are thwarted and he and his kind are exterminated. But, the novel is so much more than that. It represents Victorian fears and fancies; it is a comment on women’s position in society and underpins their sexual desires. Indeed, the extrinsic value of this novel is incredibly high. Tom Hiddleston also explores his characters. So you must listen to this audio and feel the dark and mysterious world. 3. The Red Necklace Tom Hiddleston Audiobooks

the red necklace

Publisher’s Summary

France 1789: a time of terror; a charismatic boy, Yann, who must find out who he is; the daring rescue of Sido, an aristocrat’s daughter: these are the elements in this tremendous adventure by a consummate storyteller, a marvelous tale of the first days of the French Revolution.

My Feedback on The Red Necklace Audiobook

The story itself involves gypsy magic, revolutionary France, murder, secrets, betrayal. The theatre and the plight of a young man and woman who might be fated for each other were well woven. I liked it because it was obvious that Gardner the writer did an excellent job with her research. Apart from that, Tom Hiddleston’s audio performance was appealing more. The voice he chose to perform the dwarf was great. The plot is started with mystery and hidden secrets. Magic in the book was handled well and it’s especially interesting to see them take on gypsy magic. We don’t see it often in books and it gives the book more realism if that makes sense.

The backdrop of the French Revolution progresses throughout the book and we see just how out of touch the wealthy were. Something that we even see today I think. Revolution is in the air though and Yann and Sido just like everyone else will fall into the conflict. Yann and Sido are fragile youths when the book begins, but when the book ends they become strong young adults. Thankfully their adventure is not quite over.
